Properties: acrid, bitter, warm, and entered the spleen and stomach channels.
Cang Zhu like many herbs in our yoni formulas dries dampness. It also helps to strengthen the Spleen and Stomach, often referred to as the middle jiao. In the case of yoni imbalances, this is important because in Chinese Medicine the spleen is in charge of transforming and transporting. If the spleen cannot do this an imbalance is created, commonly with the spleen, we see dampness. This dampness from the middle jiao can pour down into the lower jiao, this is where the yoni is located. This can result in damp vaginal discharge that is either accompanied by heat or cold symptoms. With heat-type, there is more burning and pain, with cold-type there is thicker, not-so-great-smelling discharge.
In Chinese Medicine, each organ and system is in charge of assisting the whole body to function in balance. If one system is out of balance it will affect another system. Cang Zhu helps to restore balance by drying the dampness and strengthening the spleen and stomach or middle jiao functions.
In a study over 200 chemical compounds have been isolated in this herb, notably sesquiterpenoids and alkynes. Sesquiterpenoids have an antimicrobial function. In addition to the anti-inflammatory response, sesquiterpene lactones have been found to sensitize tumor cells to conventional drug treatments. (PMID: 23783276)
In addition, the study found various pharmacological activities, significantly improving gastrointestinal function and thus allowed to assert most of the traditional uses of this herb as it relates to supporting the middle jiao function. (PMID: 32987126)
You can find this herb in our Yoni Wash White and Yellow formulas. Cang Zhu is combined with other herbs to target heat or cold-type yoni imbalances which differentiates the two types of washes.
