Pei Lan: Aromatic Dampness Support in Yoni Steaming

Pei Lan: Aromatic Dampness Support in Yoni Steaming

Pei Lan | Herba Eupatorii | Eupatorium

Properties: Acrid, Neutral
Channels Entered: Spleen, Stomach

Pei Lan is cherished in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its aromatic quality and gentle action on dampness. Its neutral, fragrant nature allows it to transform dampness without creating unnecessary dryness, making it especially useful for formulations like our yoni steam, where balance and comfort are essential.

When you open your steam pouch, you may notice Pei Lan’s uplifting aroma. This fragrance isn’t just pleasant,  in TCM it reflects the herb’s ability to harmonize the middle burner/jiao and guide other herbs toward the surface, helping to clear internal dampness and support optimal qi movement.

Active Constituents

  • Flavonoids — antioxidant and supporting cellular metabolism
  • Sesquiterpenes — contribute to aroma and may help modulate inflammation
  • Phenolic acids — antioxidant compounds
  • Terpenoids and essential oils — responsible for Pei Lan’s distinctive aromatic quality
  • Steroids, saponins, and tannins — supporting gentle tonification and balance

These constituents work together to give Pei Lan its multi‑faceted profile. The essential oils and terpenoids are particularly important because they are closely tied to the herb’s transforming and aromatic functions.

In TCM, Pei Lan’s aromatic warmth is said to awaken the spleen and disperse dampness, making it useful for conditions where internal stagnation and heaviness are present. Its neutral nature allows it to clarify without aggressively drying or depleting tissues.

Modern research supports several aspects of this traditional profile. Studies on Eupatorium species highlight antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, linked to flavonoids and phenolic compounds, as well as aromatic compounds that influence sensory perception and physiological responses. A systematic overview of essential oils and flavonoids indicates these constituents may support microcirculation and balanced inflammatory responses, effects particularly enhanced when used via steam, where warmth and inhalation engage vaginal tissues gently.

In our yoni steam, Pei Lan plays a harmonizing and aromatic role. Its fragrance helps create a soothing, gentle experience while supporting the transformation of damp patterns, especially helpful for women experiencing internal heaviness, discomfort, or sensitivity.

Steaming with intention supports comfort, balance, and connection. Our Yoni Steam blends traditional wisdom with modern understanding to help you experience soothing warmth, balanced dampness transformation, and a calming aromatic presence.

Pei Lan is one of my favorite herbs, and including it in our KYA Yoni Steam was essential for its uplifting and restorative energy. I love using the steam myself as a self-care ritual, and I hope it can be part of yours too.
